Safety

Safety at Fontaine. Our company culture is based on safety being absolutely paramount and integral to everything we do, from preconstruction through closeout and operation. It’s part of our DNA. We’re 100% committed to keeping your project safe and operational, with crystal-clear communication about our every move.

Committed to Safety

Mark Bisson, our director of safety, has more than 25 years of construction experience and is a recognized leader and expert in construction safety in New England. Mark gets involved in all preconstruction planning for safety and procurement with subcontractors, and our safety team is constantly on site during construction. WIth each project, Fontaine has a written safety plan that is completely customized to the individual project, its challenges, type of construction, and client.

Subcontractors Are a Critical Part of the Mix

Fontaine has a written prequalification program for all subcontractors that scores them based on relevant experience, safety histories, capacity for the project, references, and more. Our deep history with many of the key subcontractors in the area is a huge benefit in terms of knowing how to get the best subs and foremen to execute the work safely, but there’s also no substitute for continued diligence. All subcontractors are required to have project-specific safety plans that must meet the requirements of our safety standard, going above and beyond mere OSHA compliance. These plans are reviewed prior to work commencing and updated as needed throughout the project.

In our opinion, the cleanliness of a construction site is an outward expression of a firm’s commitment to safety and organization.

Harnesses Technology to Improve Safety

Fontaine has integrated a safety and compliance platform, SkillSignal, into our rigorous safety program. SkillSignal is a mobile app that onboards and connects our on-site workforce, including required certifications, OSHA cards, and professional licenses. Our project managers are able to verify qualifications, upload lists and tasks that need to be completed for people to work on our sites, and store important site-specific information such as orientations, CORI background checks, and copies of safety certifications. The SkillSignal platform also enables us to manage each project workforce through a real-time daily attendance log and on-the-spot certification checks.

A Clean Site is a Safe Site

In our opinion, the cleanliness of a construction site is an outward expression of a firm’s commitment to safety and organization. Every Fontaine project site is “owner tour ready” at all times and it’s a principle that we have instilled in our superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers. We take great pride in the appearance of our sites, both from the fence line and within the building itself, and we ensure that trash and debris are handled properly so there’s no buildup of debris to create an eyesore, a danger, or a less productive site.
