The project carefully balances preservation and modernization, maintaining the architectural character of the original library while introducing flexible, state-of-the-art spaces to support today’s library programming and community use.
The addition enhances accessibility, functionality, and capacity, creating a cohesive facility that serves as a vibrant civic hub while respecting the building’s historic significance. Upon completion, the project was recognized with top honors from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Massachusetts Chapter in the “Renovation | Modernization under $20 million” category, highlighting excellence in construction management and project delivery
