The new Agawam High School project involves the construction of a 235,075-square-foot, state-of-the-art educational facility designed to support modern learning and long-term community use. Replacing the existing 1955 building, the new school will provide updated academic spaces, flexible learning environments, and expanded areas for student life and public events.
The project is being delivered in carefully planned phases to allow the existing school to remain operational throughout construction. Initial work includes the new gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria, and core academic spaces, followed by the demolition of the current high school and completion of final sitework and athletic facilities.
Sustainability is a key driver of the project, highlighted by the integration of a geothermal heating and cooling system supported by an extensive well field. This approach will significantly reduce energy consumption and long-term operating costs while improving overall building performance. Additional high-efficiency systems, improved building envelope design, and a focus on long-term durability contribute to a more environmentally responsible and resilient facility.
