Granby Elementary School

The Granby Elementary School project in Granby, Massachusetts is a Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) supported initiative that consolidated two elementary schools into a single, modern Pre-K through Grade 6 facility through a major addition and full renovation of the existing East Meadow School.

The project added approximately 31,730 SF of new construction and renovated 37,030 SF of existing building, creating a unified and flexible learning environment. The new addition provides Pre-K through Grade 2 classrooms, administrative offices, and a gymnasium with a performance stage, while the renovated spaces support Grades 3 through 6 with updated classrooms, cafeteria, kitchen, and additional performance space.

Extensive building upgrades were completed throughout the existing structure, including new windows, doors, ceilings, lighting, bathrooms, mechanical systems, and a new fire protection system. The phased construction approach allowed students to safely occupy the building throughout the duration of work.

The design emphasizes improved daylighting, energy efficiency, and a stronger connection between old and new spaces through bright corridors and a central courtyard that enhances circulation and outdoor learning opportunities.

The project achieved LEED Silver certification and reflects MSBA goals for cost-effective, long-term educational facilities that improve performance, sustainability, and the overall learning environment for the Granby community.
