Templeton Elementary School

The Templeton Elementary School project involved the construction of a new 93,000 SF Pre-K through grade five facility, delivered through the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) program. The project replaced multiple outdated schools with a single, modern learning environment for the Narragansett Regional School District. Scope included demolition of the existing building and significant upgrades to the surrounding site and adjacent roadways.

The new three-story school is organized to support flexible, student-centered learning, with classroom wings, a gymnasium, cafetorium, kitchen, administrative offices, and dedicated support spaces. Circulation areas are designed as extensions of the classroom, creating adaptable spaces for collaboration and small-group instruction. Outdoor areas include separate playgrounds, a pedestrian plaza, and site features that incorporate salvaged brick from the original school, reinforcing a connection to the community’s history.

Constructed on a tight, highly visible site in the center of town, the project required careful coordination to minimize disruption to neighboring residential and commercial properties. Despite these challenges, the school was completed on schedule and opened to students and staff for the Fall of 2019. The project achieved LEED v4 Silver certification and received a Merit Award for design excellence from AIA Central Massachusetts.
