Middleborough High School

The new Middleborough High School is a 166,650 SF LEED Silver certified, 21st-century learning facility that replaces the town’s original 1970s-era high school on the same site. Following a comprehensive feasibility study that evaluated renovation, addition, and full replacement options, the community selected a new construction approach to best support long-term educational goals, cost efficiency, and minimal disruption. The existing school remained fully occupied during construction with phased sequencing allowing safe day-to-day operations throughout the project.

The building is organized into two three-story academic wings, one dedicated to Humanities and the other to STEAM programming, including fabrication and makerspace environments that support hands-on, project-based learning. These wings connect through a central rotunda that serves as the building’s primary circulation and gathering hub. Supporting programs are separated into dedicated wings, including Health and Wellness spaces with gymnasiums, fitness areas, and weight rooms, as well as a Performing Arts wing featuring an auditorium, black box theater, and television production studio with independent community access.

After demolition of the former high school, the site was fully reimagined with new infrastructure and athletic amenities, including a synthetic turf multi-sport field and running track. The result is a modern, energy-efficient campus designed to support academics, athletics, and community use under one cohesive framework.
