Northbridge Elementary School

Northbridge Elementary School is a 167,000 SF, three-story facility in Whitinsville that consolidates the Town of Northbridge’s two former elementary schools into a single, modern learning environment for grades Pre-K through 5. Delivered as part of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) program, the project was carefully phased to allow the existing school to remain operational during construction.

Designed with scale and student experience in mind, the building is organized into grade-level “neighborhoods” that create smaller learning communities within the larger facility. Shared collaboration areas act as central hubs, supporting project-based learning and encouraging interaction, while efficient layout and circulation minimize transition time and maximize time spent in the classroom.

The compact footprint improves site circulation, student drop-off and pick-up, and overall campus safety. A clearly defined secure entry sequence, along with separation between public and private zones, enhances visibility and control throughout the site.

Sustainability is a key component of the project, which achieved LEED Silver certification. The building incorporates high-performance systems, abundant natural daylight, outdoor learning spaces, and energy-efficient design strategies that support a healthy, high-quality learning environment for students and staff.
