Fontaine served as the construction manager for the transformation of historic Kimball Hall into the newly renovated Seelos Theatre at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Originally utilized primarily as a film venue, the space was fully reimagined into a 360-seat, multi-purpose assembly hall designed to support a wide range of academic, cultural, and campus events.
Working within the constraints of the existing historic structure, the project team delivered a comprehensive interior renovation that modernized the facility while preserving its campus character. The upgraded theatre features state-of-the-art acoustic treatments, advanced lighting and audio-visual systems, and enhanced projection capabilities, allowing the space to support both cinematic programming and live presentations at a professional level.
In addition to performance upgrades, the renovation included significant improvements to building systems, including new heating and air conditioning infrastructure to improve occupant comfort and operational efficiency. Support spaces, circulation areas, and audience amenities were also reconfigured to better accommodate large gatherings and high-traffic campus use.
Today, Seelos Theatre has become one of Holy Cross’s most versatile and heavily utilized venues, hosting everything from faculty assemblies and student orientation programs to lectures, performances, and the college’s ongoing film series. The completed project successfully transformed an underutilized space into a central hub for campus life, reinforcing the college’s commitment to flexible, modern learning and gathering environments within its historic setting.
