The Southwick Regional School project was completed through the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) Core Program and included the renovation and expansion of the existing 9–12 high school to create a modern 7–12 regional facility serving Southwick, Tolland, and Granville. The work was delivered in phases over an approximately 24-month construction period while the school remained fully occupied.
The project expanded the original 100,000-square-foot building with two new “C”-shaped academic wings totaling approximately 60,000 square feet. The north addition created a new main entrance and a dedicated middle school academic wing, while the south addition added updated high school science labs and classrooms. Renovations to the central core—gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria, and library—were designed to serve both middle and high school students through shared, efficiently organized spaces.
The renovation scope included 30 updated classrooms, a 540-seat auditorium, a modernized media center, locker rooms, and cafeteria upgrades. All mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems were fully upgraded, including high-efficiency HVAC equipment, modern lighting systems, and water-saving plumbing fixtures, bringing the facility up to current code standards.
Additional district-wide work supported grade reconfiguration and included accessibility improvements, enhanced building security, and code compliance upgrades. The design maintains clear separation between middle and high school learning communities while sharing core facilities, improving operational efficiency and reducing long-term operating costs.
As an MSBA Core Program project, the Southwick Regional School redevelopment reflects a coordinated state and local investment in modernizing educational facilities and improving long-term functionality for the district.
