Southwood Dormitory | Western New England University
Completed in 2009, Southwood Hall is a four-story, apartment-style residence hall at Western New England University designed to support upperclass student living. Fontaine delivered this $11.5 million project as part of the university’s campus-wide housing expansion, constructing 38 modern apartment units housing approximately 148 students in a combination of two- and four-bedroom layouts.
The building features full apartment amenities including kitchens, living rooms, and private bathrooms, along with shared community spaces designed to enhance student life and engagement. As one of the university’s first geothermal residential buildings, Southwood Hall incorporates sustainable systems including geothermal heating and cooling, rooftop solar hot water support, and water conservation strategies, reflecting a broader campus commitment to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
