The David Prouty High School project includes a major addition and renovation to the existing school facility, delivering a modernized, high-performance learning environment for the Spencer–East Brookfield Regional School District. The work involves the abatement and demolition of approximately 48,000 SF of a three-story classroom wing and a 17,000 SF gym wing, followed by the construction of a new approximately 94,000 SF addition featuring classrooms, a new gymnasium, administrative offices, and support spaces. The project also includes the abatement and renovation of approximately 33,000 SF of the existing cafeteria and auditorium wing.
The combined renovation and addition results in a roughly 127,000 SF transformed high school designed to support flexible, future-ready learning. The new construction incorporates a mix of modern structural systems, including insulated concrete form (ICF) exterior walls and selective mass timber (CLT) components, contributing to improved energy performance, durability, and indoor environmental quality.
Extensive site improvements are also included, with full reconstruction of stormwater systems, utilities, parking areas, roadways, landscaping, and upgraded athletic facilities, including new and improved fields and track amenities.
Construction is being completed in carefully sequenced phases while the existing school remains fully operational, requiring detailed logistics planning, safety coordination, and minimal disruption to students and staff throughout the duration of the project.
