Figge Hall | College of the Holy Cross

Figge Hall is a four-story residence hall on the campus of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, housing approximately 156 upperclass students in four-person apartment-style suites. Each unit includes two double bedrooms connected by a shared living room, dining area, kitchen, and compartmentalized bathroom, creating a more independent living environment for seniors.

The building is designed to encourage community engagement while maintaining residential privacy. A two-story lobby, lounge areas, and a large multipurpose community room are located on the first floor and are accessible to the entire campus. These spaces are used for gatherings and campuswide events while the upper floors remain secure for residential living.

Figge Hall is also LEED Gold certified, reflecting its focus on sustainable design, energy efficiency, and reduced water usage. The project incorporates environmentally responsible building systems and materials in line with Holy Cross’s sustainability goals.

Located on a hillside, the building’s form responds to the natural topography with varied rooflines, an articulated entry canopy, and outdoor spaces that include a landscaped lawn and a volleyball court overlooking a wooded area. With a combination of apartment-style living, shared community spaces, and sustainable design, Figge Hall strengthens upperclass housing at Holy Cross while integrating thoughtfully into the campus landscape.
