Nelson Place Elementary School was the first school in Massachusetts to be certified under the new LEED v4 for Schools. The Massachusetts Department of Energy claims it is the “most efficient public building built to date” based on energy modeling and has served as a model for subsequent schools pursuing Net Zero. This project was designed and constructed according to the sustainability guidelines of LEED v4 achieving LEED Silver. The building was constructed using low-emitting materials, utilizes high efficiency building systems, and is primarily powered using rooftop solar panels.
